Projects (where I worked as a public health and medical consultant) –
a) National Health Programs – Involved in the implementation, evaluation, training, and quality control of national health programs, specifically Family Planning, RCH, and National Health Mission (NHM) projects in the Uttarakhand region till 2017 while I was working in different capacities with Uttarakhand Government.
b) State Health Programs of Uttarakhand – Involved in policy-making, implementation, evaluation, training, and quality control exercises of health programs and projects at block, district, and state levels.
c) Telemedicine and support program and other small health promotion and community health projects by MMBSHS Trust and other NGOs during COVID-19. All of them were online, like medical support, training of village people to use pulse oximeters and thermometers, training and communication with community leaders and frontline healthcare workers, health promotion talks in collaboration with academic and social institutions and organizations, etc.
d) Resource Person for training and Public Health Expert in Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), which is funded by the Government of India for its training programs at district and state levels.
e) Resource Person and Public Health Expert in Swachh Bharat Mission funded by the Government of India.
f) Associated as a public health consultant with the SBMA, a prestigious NGO in the hills of Uttarakhand region of India, for several years till 2006 and worked with their projects funded by various organizations. I provided consultancy and training services in public health, community health, health education, and health promotion domains in the following projects of SBMA from 1998-99 to 2005-6. Agencies like the World Bank funded these projects.
1) Uttarakhand Rural Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Project, funded by the World Bank.
2) The government of Uttarakhand funded the State Innovation in Family Planning Services (SIFPSA) project.
3) Total Sanitation Campaign funded by the Government of Uttarakhand and the Government of India.
4) Prevention and Awareness project for Female Feticide funded by Plan International Grant Fund.
5) The Child Sponsorship Project, funded by Plan International, has inbuilt provision for holistic health and nutritional aspects of children with education and care.
g) Worked as a consultant and trainer for a period of four years (2001 – 2004) in a project called ‘HIV AIDS Counselling and Guidance’ funded by the Christian Medical Association of India with Garhwal Community Development & Welfare Society, Chamba, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, India.
h) I was the principal investigator in a research project funded by GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Ecology from 2004 – 2006 on traditional medical practices and public health systems in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Here, we could divide traditional healing practices into three categories: neutral (neither beneficial nor harmful to health), helpful, and dangerous. We found that traditional healers and vaidyas have an excellent reputation, and villagers believe and follow their advice. We found it useful in motivating people to increase their participation and acceptance of National Health Programs like family planning and immunization.
